Foam insulation sprayers featured in trade journal
03/01/2006 - Graco spray foam proportioners received attention recently in SprayFoam magazine (Jan. 2006). Contractors in Modesto, CA used Graco equipment to cover 12 new wine storage tanks with spray polyurethane foam to insulate the contents from summer heat and winter cold. The massive tanks each hold an average of 350,000 gallons of wine.
The article ("Going Vertical Big-Time") explains the foam insulation process for the California winery's 12 new wine storage tanks. Each tank received between 2-1/2 to 4 inches of structural foam, depending on the type of wine that was to be stored in the tank. Some wines needed to be kept cooler and therefore, these tanks required thicker insulation.
According to the article, the crew from Hydroseal Construction, Riverside, CA, used "an older but highly reliable Graco Foam Cat® 400" to apply a 2.8 pound closed-cell foam (sometimes called structural foam) to the tank's exterior. The article described each step in the process, from priming to spraying polyurethane foam and polyurethane coating to the top coat of aliphatic urethane.
Hydroseal's Pedro Eugenio, job supervisor, was quoted in the article as saying, "…we like to use a Gusmer GX-7™ with a #090 tip on tank roofs."

A second SprayFoam application article ("Foam Home! Homeowner Reaps Many Benefits") featured the Graco|Gusmer H-20/35 Pro™ proportioner. Roofing contractor Paul Horschel, Melbourne, FL, convinced the homeowner that foam insulation would be more beneficial than fiberglass because of added efficiency, better soundproofing, and stronger wall system stability in hurricane-prone Florida.
The article describes the foam insulation installation process and mentions that Horschel’s crew used a Graco|Gusmer 20/35 rig with up to 300 feet of heated hose.
