Graco|Gusmer H-20/35s used in Louisiana Superdome roof project

07/07/2006 - 06/26/06 – A complete restoration is underway on the Louisiana Superdome, where thousands of New Orleans residents took refuge during Hurricane Katrina. Brazos Urethane of Texas City, TX is using Graco|Gusmer equipment on the roof portion of the project.

Brazos Urethane won the contract to install a temporary seal on the roof in October, and also was awarded the $32 million contract for the permanent roof in February 2006.

"Before the job was bid, I knew there was a very short timeline," said Wally Scoggins, owner and president of Brazos Urethane, Texas City, TX. "There was a $20,000 a day penalty for going over 45 days, and a $20,000 a day bonus for finishing early. So before I even bid the job, I bought four Graco|Gusmer H-20/35s, 2,000 feet of hose, ten Graco 5:1 drum pumps and four Xtreme® pumps. I already had enough equipment to do the dome, but I bought all new equipment because I wanted to be confident that we'd have no equipment or maintenance issues whatsoever. That's why I chose the Graco|Gusmer line."

The investment paid off. Brazos Urethane completed the initial project in 15 days, earning them a substantial bonus.

Brazos Urethane worked with Graco distributor Spray Pump, Baytown, TX to get geared up for phase one. "Because of the magnitude of the job and turnaround time that was required, I knew they would want the highest volume spray equipment and biggest nozzles they could get," said Spray Pump owner Willie Herrington. "I recommended they go with the Graco|Gusmer H-20/35 hydraulic-driven proportioners."

The article describes equipment and materials used in the stadium project. For the complete article, see the June/July 2006 Journal of Architectural Coatings.
