Vapour abrasive blasting (also known as wet abrasive blasting) removes coatings, contaminants, corrosion and residues from hard surfaces. It is similar to dry blasting, but since the media is moistened, it generates far less dust and uses less water than traditional wet blasting.
How does wet abrasive blasting work?
Water and abrasive are combined in a pot under water pressure and then precisely metered into the airflow. When wet abrasive impacts a surface, the additional water weighs the particles down and creates a “dustless” effect. Since EcoQuip 2 uses less water than slurry or other water-based technologies, pools of water aren't left behind so there is less need to worry about toxic runoff.
Compared to traditional blasting techniques, EcoQuip is:
- no need to set pot pressure relative to blast pressure
- easy to adjust blast pressure and to regulate media
- no need for containment
- produces a fine mist
- generates 92% less airborne dust than dry blasting
- less need to worry about toxic runoff
- less water needed compared to slurry or traditional wet abrasive blasting
- less media needed, which means less containment and cleanup
So exactly how dust-free is “dustless” blasting?
Blasting is never 100% dust-free. Using a wet abrasive blasting machine will cut down on the plume of dust you get from dry blasting, but you are also left with a puddle of water.
