Continuous exact ratio feeding in the paint line of train brake systems manufacturer

The Hungarian company Knorr-Bremse Kft. produces train brake systems and parts. They installed a new paint system that enabled continuous exact ratio feeding and easy and quick colour changes.

The parts are coated and the majority of these are also painted. The painting process is important as it protects the parts against corrosion and stone damage. Painting takes place on a conveyor paint line, in 3 shifts, in a continuous manner.

Knorr-Bremse was experiencing problems with the 2K gear feeding units of their old paint system. These resulted in false mixing ratios, and very difficult colour changes. Local Graco distributor Paint Service Kft. installed two new Graco paint systems to replace the old system.
 

Key applications

For the application of the two-component base coat, a ProMix proportioner was installed. Both component “A” and component “B” are monitored via a G3000 flow meter. Component “A” is fed to the unit via a Triton 308 1:1 diaphragm installed on a 200L drum, with a pneumatic agitator and filter. Component “B” is fed to the unit via a 48L pressure pot. The base coat is sprayed onto the parts using two AirPro HVLP spray guns with 1,8mm nozzle; and finally, a Triton 1:1 wall mount is used for flushing.
 

For the application of the finishing decorative paint, a ProMix II 4-colour change system was installed. Here again, both component “A” and component “B” are monitored via a G3000 gear flow meter. Component “A” is fed to the unit using a Triton 308 1:1 wall mount diaphragm pump with 100 mesh filter, an acetal fluid regulator installed on a 25L drum, using a 0,2 kW pneumatic agitator. Component “B” is fed to the unit via 40L stainless steel pressure pots with level sensor and 200 mesh filter. The finishing decorative layer is sprayed onto the parts using two AirPro HVLP spray guns with 1,8mm nozzle, and 15m of hose. And finally, a Triton 308 1:1 diaphragm pump, installed on a 25L drum cover, is used for flushing.

The new paint system enables continuous exact ratio feeding and easy and quick colour changes. It helps increase productivity and efficiency and works to the full satisfaction of Knorr-Bremse.
