Paying a tribute to the most colourful hard men of the cycling peloton with Graco cordless sprayers

Wim Belmans and the recently launched Cordless 390 Classic unit are PUNCHEURS.

Our own Wim Belmans (District Manager Contractor Equipment Division) was, together with 2 Cordless 390 Classic sprayers, part of the PUNCHEURS for a very special project on the famous Flanders’ cycling roads. With their street art, the guys from PUNCHEUR pay tribute to the most colourful hard men of the cycling peloton.

In cooperation with the Province of Flemish Brabant, the street artists painted the faces of the most iconic cyclists along the trail of the 2021 UCI Road World Championships, which took place in Belgium from 18 to 26 September.

The guys behind PUNCHEUR

It all began with the Belgian artist Thomas Daem. He was always into graphic design and made stencils when he was a student. For Tom Boonen’s last cycling year in 2017, Thomas and his dad, who is really into cycling, did some basic stencils with spare cardboard from the grocery store. Since this Tom Boonen tribute, Thomas ventured into portraits of Peter Sagan, Frank Vandenbroucke, Johan Museeuw, Bradley Wiggins, and more recently Wout van Aert and his street portraits became very famous in the world of cycling.

Next-level artwork

For this 2021 UCI Road World Championships opportunity, Thomas also looked into better equipment and wanted to try a Graco airless sprayer to lift his art to a higher level. Wim Belmans jumped on this project and after a demo of the Graco Cordless 390 Classic sprayer, it became clear immediately… The PUNCHEUR guys were sold. After a few minutes of spraying, they discovered how the sprayer makes their work faster and easier.

In total, the team painted 16 portraits of 3m75 x 2m55 in 3 days from 9:30 AM in the morning until midnight with 2 Cordless 390 Classic sprayers. Portraits of current cycling champions as Wout Van Aert, Jolien D’Hoore, Remco Evenepoel, Lotte Kopecky, Jasper Stuyven,… adorn the most famous cycling streets of Overijse, next to portraits of national and international world champions from the past years.

Graco as a partner is very proud to cooperate in this very unique sports event and is even more proud that the lightweight and compact design of the new battery-powered sprayer, which was on top of that highly portable, turned out to be the ideal help for this paint jobs.
