CHALLENGE: A cabinetmaker was struggling with compressed air usage. Running 24 hours per day, 260 days per year, their air compressors were maxed out.
When their production managers looked into it, they found the main offender in their paint mix room. Their rotary vane agitator motors used 10 to 12 units of cubic air per minute, bringing on unnecessarily high energy costs.
SOLUTION: Needing a solution and knowing Graco’s good reputation for new products, they jumped at an opportunity to test Graco’s new radial piston agitator. Its air motor is designed for more efficiency, specifically to cut down on compressed air usage.
RESULTS: Compared to the cabinetmaker’s rotary vane units, the Graco radial piston agitator consumed one-third of the compressed air. Its air motor used only 3 or 4 units of cubic air per minute.
The 66 percent reduction in compressed air use meant an annual savings of $841 per agitator air motor. Such savings justified the purchase of 18 Graco radial piston agitators, adding up to more than $15,000 in annual energy savings.
